In the full-length Uber Eats TV ad, which debuted on Tuesday, Jelly Roll looks in the mirror and expresses surprise at how covered his face is In the ad, Victoria Beckham forgets she was a Spice Girl, Jennifer Aniston forgets she’s friends with David Schwimmer, and Usher forgets he’s playing in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. They all learn in the end that Uber Eats can have anything they forgot delivered straight to their door.Jelly Roll saw her inclusion as an honor. “The first thing I said when I walked onto the commercial set that day was, ‘Yo, I don’t know who the f— was sitting in a room writing this and thought, wouldn’t it be funny if Jelly Roll was scraping off his tattoos?’ But I love that person forever,” recalls the actor. “Dude, it don’t get no bigger than a Super Bowl commercial. The Tennessee native, who orders “everything” from Uber Eats, was particularly thrilled to be working with the platform. “We do all of our grocery shopping, house shopping and all that stuff on Uber Eats,” according to him, “and anytime we’re at a studio, Uber Eats is like catering.”The Grammy-nominated singer had access to a spread of actual catered food while filming the commercial, but since he’s currently following a strict diet, he ordered a nutritious meal from Tender Greens through Uber Eats.Jokingly, I said, “I just ordered Uber Eats on an Uber Eats commercial,” as soon as I walked in. It seems like someone ought to have paid for it. I’m not sure who heard me say that the following day.
Jelly Roll, who plays himself in the Uber Eats commercial, is trying acting for the first time, but the experience has encouraged him to do more. He met for lunch with his agent just before this PEOPLE interview to express interest in potential acting roles.”I expected to hate it because all my music friends are like, ‘You’re going to hate acting,’ but I had the opposite experience,” he says. “I love telling stories and I love telling stories, and I think this is another way for me to tell stories.”
This whole Uber Eats commercial will air during Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday. Jelly Roll will be in the stands at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, but he’s “struggling” over whether to cheer for the San Francisco 49ers or the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game.”I’m going to play the middle here because Kansas City is a city that’s near and dear to my heart,” says the musician. “If I really had to pick, I’m probably going to cheer for the 49ers because I’d love to see George Kittle get one, but super happy for Travis Kelce and Patrick [Mahomes] if they win too.”
